Children and Teens Meditation

Primordial Sound Meditation (PSM): Children and Teens

Introducing Primordial Sound Meditation (PSM) to children and teens can have profound and lasting benefits for their overall well-being and development. This ancient practice nurtures essential qualities such as focus, self-confidence, self-control, creativity, empathy, and present-moment awareness.

Beyond these valuable attributes, meditation offers a gateway to release stress, worry, and frustration, fostering relaxation and joy in their lives. Most importantly, PSM empowers young minds to explore and discover their true selves.

It’s crucial to approach meditation with children in a way that allows them to express enjoyment and view it as a fun and positive experience, rather than something forced upon them. Giving children the freedom to choose allows them to embrace meditation as an activity within their control, ensuring it becomes a rewarding and empowering journey.

I will create a nurturing environment for children and teens to experience the transformative power of Primordial Sound Meditation and lay the foundation for a lifetime of well-being and self-discovery.

Tip

When to Teach Children and Teens Meditation? My doctoral research on parental involvement holds as truth that children often look to their parents as role models. Therefore, when teaching meditation to a child in a one-on-one setting, I encourage one or both parents to meditate alongside them. While some children growing up in meditating households may naturally embrace the practice early on, others may not feel drawn to it until their late teens. However, from the age of 6 or 7, most children who show interest in meditation will be ready for a simple technique.

Children and Teens Session Details

Ages 5-9

The approach is engaging and child-friendly, focusing on simplicity and using activities they enjoy to explain the benefits of meditation. The guided meditation examples provided align well with their age group.

Ages 10-12

The content becomes more relevant to their growing awareness of stress and the mind-body connection. The guided meditation practice continues to be a valuable component.

Ages 13-17

Tailoring each lesson to their individual needs is rightly emphasized, as teenagers have diverse interests and challenges. The integration of the 7 Spiritual Laws of Success is a thoughtful addition, supporting their self-awareness and affirmations.

Ages 5-9

The use of a bija (personal seed sound) primordial sound mantra is suitable for their young age. Involving parents in the meditation practice reinforces a supportive environment and helps the child transition back to regular activities.

Ages 10-12

The instruction procedure is adjusted to include the child’s entire mantra, reflecting their increasing maturity and understanding. Encouraging parents to meditate alongside their children further strengthens the practice and allows for flexible meditation times.

Ages 13-17

Integrating teens into the regular Meditation program during Session 2 is a great approach. Addressing their questions and offering extra support demonstrates a thoughtful consideration of their individual needs and ensures smooth integration with adult participants.

Ages 5-9

“Perfecting the Practice” provides a clear outline of the session, focusing on checking the child’s pronunciation, discussing their experiences during meditation, and encouraging them to maintain regular practice. The inclusion of group meditation fosters a supportive and communal environment.

Ages 10-12

The session format is similar to the 5-9 age group but with additional consideration of their growing independence. The explanation on how to keep time during meditation is a helpful addition for children who may not meditate with their parents.

Ages 13-17

I will introduce a modified version of the 7 Spiritual Laws of Success as an enriching and age-appropriate addition. The inclusion of simple sayings/principles fosters a deeper understanding of meditation’s impact on their lives.

Ages 5-9

The emphasis on teaching how everything is connected and discussing their love for others and nature fosters a sense of unity and empathy. Ending with a group meditation provides a peaceful and collective experience for the children.

Ages 10-12

The broader teaching about Higher States of Consciousness and interconnectedness allows children in this age group to develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their place in the world. The inclusion of Q&A and group meditation supports their active engagement and reflection.

Ages 13-17

The continuation of introducing the modified version of the 7 Spiritual Laws of Success further enriches their understanding of life principles. Explaining the last three laws provides valuable insights into intention, detachment, and purpose.
